easing into the gym thing

Assignments and a big exam in my American Indian Studies classes derailed me from running and working out big time last week.

However, I did jump back onboard the training wagon yesterday. I've gotten back to utilizing the gym on campus again, partially because I fell in love with one particular treadmill. He sits at the end of a long row of treadmills, all by his lonesome. His name? Corey.

But for reals, that treadmill was the smoothest that I have ever ran on. It was such a relief from pounding on hard concrete and asphalt.

Yesterday, I was able to only do 20 minutes of heavy walking with high inclines and a bit of jogging. There was a raquetball tournament going on so there was a grip of people, mostly geriatrics, who clogged the gym. It was hard getting access to certain parts of the gym.
I was also able to put in a good number of sets in on the leg press, hamstring curl and leg extension machines. Man, I missed those things!

Today, I ran for about 20 minutes at various inclines and speeds and also did 5 minutes of warm-up and cool-down. I had a good session on the treadmill. Afterwards, I worked on my jiggly arms a bit on some machines and then meandered over to the stationary bikes to finish off 15 minutes of cardio.

I'm going to try to make this gym thing a go 3 times a week. I must also remind myself to ask tiff to go halfsies with me on a personal trainer. I have never worked out in a weight room before and dont' want to look like a dork. heh
